Biographical Sketch of Dr. Wm. Lockwood Parker

Dr. William Lockwood Parker, a skilled physician and surgeon from Ohio, made significant contributions to the region since his arrival. After working as part of the surveying party for a railroad from 1884 to 1887, he pursued medical studies, graduating in 1896 from the Medical Department of Oregon University, where he won the Saylor prize. He served as house surgeon at Good Samaritan Hospital and later as surgeon for the Columbia Astoria Railroad. Parker has since earned the trust of the community and his peers, joining the staff of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.

J. H. Parker & Sons

J. H. Parker & Sons runs a prominent livery, board, and hack stable operation in Eastern Oregon, occupying a two-story building with space for 125 horses—the largest in the region. The establishment boasts a variety of carriages, including a $1,200 hearse, and offers competitive boarding rates. Additionally, the firm operates two ranches for hay and grain near Baker City. J. H. Parker, originally from Canada, has been in the area since 1802 and serves as the county’s stock inspector, with his sons actively contributing to the business.
