He owned the town’s first Hack, captivating local children. Newell was the father of Jeremiah, a longstanding sheriff in Newport, and Parker N., a merchant in Newport and Princeton, Illinois. He also had a son, Benjamin, who was involved in commerce and speculation in Princeton. Additionally, he was the grandfather of Thankful M., a notable businesswoman and wife of Shepherd L. Bowers.
