Peter Michels, 63, a resident of Ellensburg since 1882, died at his home, 1108 B Street, early this morning [May 19, 1942] after a lingering illness. Born in St. James, Minn., August 8, 1878, he came to Ellensburg 60 years ago with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin Michels, valley pioneers. Clarence Benedict (Uncle Ben) Michels, 66, died of a heart attack at the home of his sister, Mrs. May Graaff here Tuesday [April 16, 1957]. He had been in ill health for some time. Born Jul 29, 1890, he attended Ellensburg schools, Gonzaga University and Seattle University. He was married in 1922 in Pasco to Veda Stevens, who preceded him in death in 1931. Anna Michels, 69-year-old native daughter of the Kittitas Valley died at her home today [August 25, 1949] following an illness of several months. She was born in Ellensburg on May 23, 1880. She was married to Henry J. Michels on May 22, 1900. He preceded her in death on October 12, 1943. She was a member of the Kittitas County Fair Board for several years. Surviving are a son, Roy, of Ellensburg, and four sisters, Mrs. Eva Shaw of Ellensburg, Mrs. Lida McGuire, and Mrs. Nettie Galvin, both of Kirkland, and Mrs. J. A. Tesack of Seattle. Frank Michels, 83, member of a Kittitas Valley pioneer family, died here this morning [March 27, 1951] about 6:30 a.m. at the Airway Nursing Home. Michels was born at Shakopee, Minnesota., October 10, 1868 and came to the Ellensburg area at the age of 15, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Michels in 1882. Martin Michels, Sr., aged 80 years and a pioneer citizen of Ellensburg, died yesterday [February 14, 1917] at his home north of the city after an illness of several years. Pending the arrival of a son, J. J. Michels, from the east, funeral arrangements will not be announced until Friday. Mr. Michels was born May 2, 1837, in Germany, and came to the United States in 1855.
