Biography of James G. Mehlin
James G. Mehlin, born January 21, 1841, in Stuttgart, Germany, emigrated to the United States in 1854. After various jobs, including a cabin boy and ambulance driver during the Civil War, he settled in the Cherokee Nation and later became a pioneer farmer in Nowata County. Mehlin married Eliza Rattlingourd in 1868, and they had one son, Charles H. A respected member of the community, Mehlin is a supporter of the Republican Party and the Lutheran church, known for his charming personality and public spirit.
