Biography of Will McCraney, A.M.
William McCraney, a prominent Oakville businessman and a member of the House of Commons from 1875 to 1879, was born on December 15, 1831, in Trafalgar. The grandson of a U.E. Loyalist, he was raised on his father’s farm and educated through private study. McCraney gained experience in various industries, including farming and lumbering, and contributed significantly to Oakville’s development. He served in local government, including as mayor, and was an active Christian and advocate for temperance. He married Elizabeth Coote and had ten children, two sons and six daughters.
