Biography of Archibald Livingstone

Archibald Livingstone, born on August 10, 1827, in Montreal, was the son of Scottish immigrant Duncan Livingstone. After early schooling, he worked as a clerk before becoming a successful merchant for 25 years in Kingston. He served as an alderman for twelve years and was mayor in 1871, a pivotal year marked by the initiation of the Kingston and Pembroke railway and the Provincial Exhibition. A Reformer and Presbyterian, he contributed to community efforts, including relief for the victims of the Chicago fire. He married Selina Scobell in 1854 and had one son, Sidney.
