Kittilsen

Colonel Edward Kittilsen, born in Moline in 1854 to Norwegian and Swedish immigrants, rose from his early career in business to serve the community as chief of police for over twenty-three years before becoming sheriff of Rock Island County in 1906. A dedicated military officer, he joined the Illinois State Militia in 1875, eventually reaching the rank of colonel. Kittilsen’s patriotism was evident during the Spanish-American War, where he prioritized his duty to his regiment over personal political ambitions. He is widely respected for his integrity and commitment to public service.
