Biographical Sketch of Robert C. Grove

Was born in Lewistown, Frederick County, Maryland, October 10, 1842. His parents moved to Bedford County, Pennsylvania, when Robert was sevens years old, and there he was partly educated. In the spring of 1855, he went: to the Harrisburg Orphans’ Home, where he remained until the spring of 1861. The war then lowering like a storm-cloud over the land, Mr. Grove entered the Federal service as a private soldier, but was soon promoted to second lieutenant. He was taken to Indiana by his parents, who removed to that State when Jacob was three years old, and there lived until after he became of age. The Bacon Family Genealogy descends the Bacon family tree through the children of Ralph Bacon, 2nd. Ralph was born in New York State abt the year 1777. At the age of 17, about the year 1794, he traveled to Painesville Ohio. Eventually acquiring some land there, he would marry Mary Jourden in 1801. In 1820 he moved his family to Crawford County, Ohio, owning houses and land in the townships of Liberty and Whetstone. His wife died 5 Oct 1845, he died 15 Jun 1849. This union would produce 13 offspring, twelve of whom would marry and raise families of their own. This Bacon Family Genealogy is their story.

In the fall of 1857 he came to this State and County, and has been a farmer in Daviess County ever since. He has a farm of 120 acres in Liberty township, which he has well fenced and improved.
