Edmund Ingalls, son of Robert, was born about 1598 in Skirbeck, Lincolnshire, England. He immigrated in 1628 to Salem, Massachusetts and with his brother, Francis, founded Lynn, Massachusetts in 1629. He married Ann, fathered nine children, and died in 1648.
Edward A. Gammons, born January 15, 1842, in South Wareham, MA, hails from a lineage rooted in English origin, with family records spanning several New England towns. His father, William Gammons, worked in local mills, and Edward began his career early, alternating work at sea and in the mills. Serving in the Civil War, he later became a prominent banker, dedicating nearly thirty years to the National Bank of Wareham. He married Mary Bowman Billings, and they had three children, continuing the family’s legacy in Wareham.
Benjamin Gammon, originally from Madison County, Va., settled in Montgomery County, Mo., in 1812 with his wife, Sarah Maddox. They had ten children, including John and Jonathan, the latter of whom married Martha Dickerson. The Gammon family made contributions to local agriculture, highlighted by Mr. Gammon building the first hand-mill in the area. This mill not only served their household but also their neighbors, with grinding often performed by the children. Family gatherings occasionally required adjustments to meal portions, reflecting their warm hospitality.
A. L. Gammon, a Water Tender from Rockingham County and son of B. F. and Elizabeth Gammon, enlisted in the Navy on February 12, 1917, in Richmond, Virginia. He was assigned to the battleship New Hampshire, contributing to six overseas voyages. Gammon served aboard this ship throughout the entirety of his service and was discharged at Hampton Roads, Virginia, on August 21, 1919.
