Biography of Hammel M. Deroche

Hammel Madden Deroche, born on August 27, 1840, in Newburgh, Ontario, served as a member of the Provincial Parliament for eight years, first elected in 1871. Educated at the Newburgh grammar school and the University of Toronto, he practiced law after being called to the Bar in 1874. A prominent Reformer, he was influential in political circles and served on the Council of Public Instruction. Married to Sarah Ann Christian Pile, they had three children together. Deroche is noted for his eloquence and strong principles.
