Biographical Sketch of William Blossom

William Blossom, born in Amsterdam, New York, was the son of Joseph Blossom, with possible roots in the Cape Cod family. Educated for the Presbyterian ministry, William turned to farming in Seneca township before moving to Port Gibson in 1847, where he managed a general store and a wholesale egg and butter business. He was first married to Magdalen Post and later to Polly Benham, with whom he had six children: Joseph, Delanie, Magdalen, Eli, Henry, and Samuel.

Biographical Sketch of Joseph Blossom

Joseph Blossom, born April 8, 1837, in Seneca, New York, moved to Port Gibson at age ten. After attending local public schools, he worked in his father’s store before engaging in boating on the Erie Canal and later farming. A former notary public and school trustee, he oversaw the construction of a new school and town hall. Married to Ellen Corwin, they had six children. Joseph remains active in farming and the Maccabees organization.
