A former mayor of Pendleton, Hugh A. Bowman of 515 SE Byers Ave., died Tuesday [June 5, 1973] at St. Anthony Hospital. He was 76. Mr. Bowman was born in Pendleton Feb. 24, 1897, and lived here all his life. He was mayor in 1947 and 1948. He married Evelyn Mae McAllister June 22, 1921, at Pendleton. Mr. Bowman served in the U. S. Army during World War I. He operated the Bowman Hotel until his retirement. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 43, Pendleton. Henry Bowman, who resides in Talma, died Monday [August 25, 1903] afternoon at 2 o’clock. He had been suffering with dropsy, along with the effects of old age, for the past 9 months and the end was not unexpected. Evelyn Mae Bowman of 515 SE Byers Ave. died at St. Anthony Hospital Wednesday [June 6, 1973], one day after the death of her husband, former Pendleton Mayor Hugh Bowman. Mrs. Bowman was 73. She was born April 30, 1900, at Longmont, Colo. She had lived in Pendleton 50 years. Survivors are a niece, Mrs. Chet Kirkman, San Francisco; a grandniece, Mrs. Mark Eckenrode, Los Angeles; and several other nieces and grandnieces and nephews in California. Edson R. Bowman, 64, who had lived in Sturgis and vicinity for the past 40 years, was the victim of a heart attack last night [August 7, 1944] on the Charles Seeb farm. Death, which occurred at eight o’clock, came after Mr. Bowman had desperately worked to prevent a grass fire from spreading on his farm two miles from Sturgis on South Nottawa Road. Arthur W. Bowman, 79, of 8726 Newgrove Ave. S.W., died in a local hospital Monday. He was born in Trempealeau, Wis. Mr. Bowman had lived here 43 years. He was a retired Tacoma Transit Co. employee. Mr. Bowman was a member of the Motor Coach Employees’ Union. Funeral services for Mrs. Alvira Bowman were held Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock in the Methodist Church in Kingston, conducted by the Rev. Edward Hardy. Burial was in Kingston Cemetery.
