Waters, Ardis E. Ward Mrs. – Obituary

Baker City, Oregon

Ardis E. Waters, 82, of Baker City, died July 8, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. Pastor Bill Cox of McEwen Bible Fellowship will officiate. Vault interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Waters was born on Feb. 12, 1924, at Baker City to Glenn H. and Hattie Cole Ward of Hereford. She spent her early years on the Upper Burnt River and was a 1941 Hereford High School graduate. She later attended Baker Business College.

She worked for various businesses in Baker City and was employed by the U.S. Forest Service. Her favorite job was working for Rosa Krann, milliner, in 1961, which was Rosa’s last year in business.

Mrs. Waters was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Baker County Garden Club, the Historical Society and Crossroads Arts Center.

She traveled briefly in seven foreign countries, but preferred the valleys, hills and mountains of Eastern Oregon. From a young age, she recorded the scenes and wildflowers with her camera. She sold or gave away numerous photos.

She was always thankful that her ancestors, as early as 1864, settled in Eastern Oregon. The Boyer family arrived at that time and the Cole family arrived in 1879.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Job N. Waters, who died in 1990; two infant sons; her grandparents, Charles and Fannie Boyer Cole of Hereford and O.D. and Elida Parsons Ward of Cleveland; her parents, Glenn H. and Hattie Ward; an infant sister, June La Velle Ward; and brothers, Ralph Cole Ward and Raymond G. Ward.

Survivors include her sons, John T. Waters of Denver and Robert C. Waters of Caldwell, Idaho, and his wife, Linda; her grandson, Mike Waters, and his wife, Shenoa; great-grandson, Garrett; and her sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and John Schaer of Corvallis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice through Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St., Baker City, OR 97814.
