John Spain Died Wednesday Night
Well Known Buckaroo Sick Only Short Time

John Spain, 47, and for the past 30 years a resident of North Powder and Union vicinities, passed this life at Hot Lake at midnight Wednesday of this week. Death was due to hemorrage of the stomach. Mr. Spain was seized with the attack which caused his death at about daylight Wednesday morning. He was rushed to the sanitarium at Hot Lake where he gradually grew worse until the end.

John Spain was on of the best known men in Eastern Oregon, having spent the greater part of his life on the cattle ranches of this section. Of late years he had been a prominent figure at most of the outdoor shows, providing ring stock for the Union Stock show, the Pendleton and Weiser Round-ups and other fairs and rodeos. He owned a ranch in the Telocaset neighborhood and residence property in North Powder where he made his home.

He is survived by three brothers, Fred of Union, Arch of the Medical Springs district, Charles of the Snake River country, and a step-daughter, Helen. Mrs. Spain died June 21 of this year. Funeral arrangements have not been completed at the time of this report.

Funeral Services

    Funeral services of the late John Spain, who died suddenly Wednesday night of last week, were held at the West chapel in Baker Monday afternoon, Rev. A.B. Weaver, pastor of the M.E. church of Baker, officiated. Burial was in the Baker cemetery. a large number of friends from here and other sections of Union county attended the services.
