Another Pioneer Gone
James H. Shinn Added to the List of Baker City’s Dead
On last Monday James H. Shinn, another of the pioneers of Baker county passed away and was buried yesterday.
Judge Shinn as he was familiarly called has occupied a prominent place in the history of Baker county for many years and his death will be keenly felt by many who found in him a true hearted friend and adviser. Mr. Shinn was one of the best informed men in the state on political affairs and proved himself at times a pillar of strength to the democratic party of Baker county, although in 1874 when a candidate for re-election as sheriff his party unmercifully slaughtered him.
Deceased leaves an estimable wife and five sons to mourn his loss who will have the heartfelt sympathy of scores of friends in the sorrow and sadness that the coming of the new year brings to them.
