Eleanor Ruth Ross, 83, of Baker City, died April 6, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.
There will be a celebration of her life at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Coles Funeral Home. Pastor Monte Loyd of the Harvest Church will officiate. Visitations will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday before the service. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Eleanor was born on July 26, 1924, to Otto H. and Bernice E. Kenyon Schmidt at Cleveland. She was a 1942 graduate of Brush High School at South Euclid, Ohio.
She worked in insurance offices at Cleveland before marrying Adam R. Chisholm on Oct. 5, 1957. The couple then moved to Marmora, Ontario, Canada, where she worked as a secretary at Marmora High School for five years.
They later moved back to Painesville, Ohio, and she worked as a secretary at St. James Episcopal Church from 1962 to 1978.
In June of 1978 she moved to Cottonwood, Ariz., and on July 18, 1981, married Marshel M. Ross. They remained in Arizona until moving to Baker City in 2001.
Eleanor was a member of the Harvest Church Assembly of God in Baker City. She loved being in church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto, who died in 1962, and Bernice, who died in 1992; and two husbands, Adam R. Chisholm, who died on May 6, 1979, and Marshel M. Ross, who died on Feb. 11, 1997.
Survivors include her brother, Donald Schmidt, and his wife, Phyllis, of Baker City; three nephews, Donald “Charlie” Schmidt, David Schmidt and his wife, Nancy, of Goodyear, Ariz., and John Schmidt and his wife, Sherrie, of Nampa, Idaho; several cousins and great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the mission fund at the Harvest Church through Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St., Baker City, OR 97814. Eleanor had been interested in foreign missions since she was very young.
