Wayne Monroe Rogers, 93, of Baker City died Dec. 7, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.
His memorial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. Pastor Robin Harris of Cornerstone Church will officiate. Disposition was by cremation at Eastern Oregon Pioneer Crematory.
Wayne was born Sept. 15, 1913, at Smith Center, Kan., to Harry W. and Margret Rogers.
The family moved to Idaho in 1917, first to Twin Falls and then to Filer, and later to Barber. Wayne finished school in Barber where he met Ardis Rea. The two got married on June 29, 1932 in Vale. They settled in Barber where Wayne worked at a saw mile. They lived there until 1937.
In 1937, Wayne and Ardis moved to Vale where they purchased a farm and lived until 1959. Being a farmer was Wayne’s lifelong ambition, and he remained a farmer at heart until his death, stating he would still be working a farm if he was able.
Because of health reasons, Wayne sold the farm in 1959 and moved to Sumpter, where he and his brother and sister-in-law, Jiles and Theta Dinger, purchased the general store. They operated the store until 1965 when Wayne started up a backhoe and trucking service that he operated until 1982 when he finally retired. They moved to Baker City in September 1984.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away in July 2005.
He is survived by his daughter, Hazel Hansen, and her husband, Norm, of Baker City; sons, Lloyd Rogers and his wife, Donna, of Tonopah, Ariz., and Keith Rogers and his wife, Marlene, of Baker City; seven grandchildren, Glenda Oglesbee of Portland, Randy Oglesbee and his wife, Sylvia, of Porltand, Danny Oglesbee and his wife, Carrie, of Pendleton, Russell Rogers and his wife, Joann, of California, Rex Rogers of Arizona, Robert Rogers and his wife, Pattie, of Central Oregon, and Deena Phillips and her husband, Adam, of Keating, and brother, Kenneth Rogers of McMinnville.
