Mrs. W. Miller Succumbs After Short Illness

Mrs. Will Miller, prominent valley woman of the section between Island City and Cove, passed away about midnight last night at Hot Lake where she had been taken about two weeks ago to receive medical and probably surgical attention. It was found that an operation was necessary and this was performed Monday, but she did not rally from the ordeal.

Mrs. Miller, who was 57 years of age, was the wife of William Miller, a member of one of the pioneer families of the Grande Ronde valley. They had lived on the ranch in the Cove vicinity since their marriage in 1899.

Besides her husband there are eight living children, Mrs. Edna Stedian and Leonard Miller, of Venice, Cal.; Arthur, of La Grande; Mrs. Adeline Harn, at home; Ward, of Cove; Howard, Glenn and Alice, at home. There are also two granddaughters, her mother Mrs. Myers, [sic – Mires] of Washington State; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Scott, of Portland, and Mrs. Vera Ragsdale, of Baker, and two brothers, Fred, of Robinette, and Walter, of Washington. Mr. Miller, five of the children residing in this valley and the sister, Mrs. Ragsdale, were with her at the time of her passing.

Funeral services will be held at 1 o’clock at the Snodgrass and Zimmerman mortuary. Burial will take place in the Summerville cemetery.
