McQuain, Elvera I. Sawyer Mrs. – Obituary

Elvera I. McQuain, 73, of Hermiston, a former Baker City resident, died Oct. 7, 2002, at Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel at Burns Mortuary of Hermiston.

She was born on Dec. 18, 1928, at Cody, Wyo., to Archie and Myrtle Achenbach Sawyer. She attended grade school at Laramie, Wyo., then moved with her family to Baker City, where she graduated from high school. She attended the University of Wyoming at Laramie.

On Jan. 8, 1956, she married Martie McQuain II at Laramie, Wyo. The couple lived in Wyoming and California before moving to Oregon in 1968.

They lived at Olex and then at Condon before later divorcing. Mrs. McQuain returned to Wyoming where she lived for several years before moving to Hermiston in 1989.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Jack Carnine of Boardman, Georgia and Rod McKee of La Grande, Sheila and Ken Norris of Gillette, Wyo., and Sherrie and Matt Loomis of Caldwell, Idaho; a son and daughter-in-law, Martie III and Staci McQuain of Echo; 13 grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Reese of Laramie, Charlotte West of Glendale, Ariz., Annette Rice of Hillsboro and Vickie Shepherd of Sheridan, Wyo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, George Sawyer and Thomas Sawyer.
