Mrs. C.T. McDaniel, who passed away Saturday, March 6, at the Enterprise hospital, was a member of Wallowa County’s pioneer families,. Born near Wallowa, Mrs. McDaniel spent practically her entire life in this vicinity until the death of her husband in 1942. Since that time she had made her home with a sister in Portland.
Julia Ellen Tulley, the eldest daughter of Levi and Alma Tulley was born on a farm near Wallowa, April 8, 1875. She spent her girlhood days on her father’s farm about three and a half miles from Wallowa, and here she was married to C.T. McDaniel July 22, 1896. Three sons were born to this union. Mrs. McDaniel was preceded in death by her sons, Donald and Raymond and her husband, C.T. McDaniel.
She is survived by a son, Lawton McDaniel; three sisters: Mrs. Jesse Kiddle of Portland, Mrs. Charley Brown of Echo and Mrs. Oscar Maxwell of Wallowa; by four brothers, Eddie Tulley of Portland, Melvin Tulley of Eugene, Stewart Tulley of Sacramento, and Jesse Tulley of Wallowa; four grandsons and one granddaughter, and other relatives and numerous friends throughout the state.
Mrs. McDaniel took an active interest in the affairs of her community. She was a charter member of Jessica Lodge No. 68, OES, and served as worthy matron of that order. She was a charter member of the Woman’s Society of Christian service of the Methodist church, also a charter member of the Woman’s Club of Wallowa and took an active part in its program for many years. In 1940 she was honored as the outstanding pioneer member of that organization. Though making her home in Portland, Mrs. McDaniel never lost her interest in community affairs and her Wallowa friends, and kept her contacts alive by frequent visits to her home town.
Mrs. McDaniel arrived from Portland for a short visit on Jan. 23. Shortly after her arrival she was stricken with a severe cold which later developed complications that resulted in her death last Saturday.
A good neighbor, a sincere friend and a faithful contributor for the good of her fellowman, Mrs. McDaniel will long live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
