Mrs. Florence Irwin, life-long resident of Union County, died in a local hospital yesterday.
Funeral services will be held in the Daniels Funeral Home on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Rev. H. J. Gernhardt will officiate and interment will be in Island City Cemetery.
Mrs. Irwin was born Jan. 26, 1888, in the Grande Ronde Valley, the daughter of Robert Thomas Childers and Mary Elizabeth Hyde Childers. She was the granddaughter of James Childers and Mary Jane McDowell Childers, who were among the first settlers in the valley. She married Sam Irwin Oct. 3, 1906. Prior to their retirement Mr. and Mrs. Irwin were farmers in the valley. They made their home at 2710 N. Birch.
Mrs. Irwin was a charter member of the Rebekah Lodge and a lifetime member of the Island City Ladies Aid.
Survivors include her widower, Sam Irwin of La Grande; one daughter, Mrs. Marion Stoddard; one nephew, Truman Irwin, Great Falls, Mont., three grandchildren; Gerald Lee Stoddard, with the Air Force in Japan, Mary Stoddard and Jeannie Stoddard, both of La Grande.
