Herbert Stanley “Bud” Briggs, 90, died at his home in Enterprise on May 31, 2005. He was born in New Meadows, Idaho, on Jan. 16, 1915, to Roy and Maude Briggs.
Mr. Briggs came to Wallowa County in 1939. He worked at the mill in Joseph and later as a janitor for Joseph High School. In 1940, he married Lucile “Peal.” They were married 63 years when she died in 2003.
In 1950, Mr. Briggs went to work for Pacific Power. He ran the power plant at Wallowa Lake for several years and then transferred to the Lewis River Project at Cougar, Wash., where he operated the power plant there until he retired in 1977.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and little creatures. He enjoyed feeding squirrels and leaves behind his dog Huckleberry Number Three.
Mr. Briggs is survived by his daughter Sue of Enterprise, grandson Jeff and wife Shannon of Page, Ariz., granddaughter Laura and husband Gary of Post Falls, Idaho, granddaughter Denice and husband Andrew of Loveland, Colo., six great-grandsons, five great granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucile and sisters Frances Mead and Rose Sandlin Simmons.
A funeral was held June 6 at Bollman Funeral Home in Enterprise. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Wallowa County Hospice.
