Esther Louise Boyer, 82, a long time Haines resident died March 12, 1997, at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, 2625 Hughes Lane. Bishop Dale Bingham of the church will officiate. Vault interment will follow at the Haines Cemetery. Visitations will be until 8 o’clock tonight at the Coles-Strommer-Monroe Funeral Home, 1950 Place St.
Mrs. Boyer was born May 31, 1914, at Bancroft, Idaho, to George E. Mabey and Jenny Roberts.
She moved with her family at the age of 7 to Pittsburg, California. She was salutatorian of her high school class there.
After high school she worked as a court clerk in Martinez. It was there that she met John Boyer when he came in for a hunting license.
They were married in 1947 and started ranching, first in California. She and her family moved to Haines in 1961. She was a longtime member of the Oregon CattleWoman’s Association and the Rock Creek Mutual Improvement Club, for which she served as secretary for many years.
Survivors include her sister, Kathryn Redford of Oakland, California; her daughter, Nancy Boyer of Fountain Valley, California; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Nancy Boyer of Haines; and four grandchildren, Andrea, Bjorn, Heidi, and Monica Boyer, all of Haines.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Baker Sports Complex or a charity of one’s choice through the Coles-Strommer-Monroe Funeral Home.
