Pansey P. Allen, 83, a longtime Baker City resident, died Feb. 11, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.

Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, 1995 Fourth St. Pastor Susan Barnes will officiate. Inurnment will be later at the Eagle Valley Cemetery in Richland.

Pansey was born on Sept. 19, 1921, at Fruitland, Idaho, to Gordon and Grace Timson Smith. She was raised in Malheur County. She moved to Baker City in the early 1950s.

In Baker City, Pansey managed the Sears Catalog Store for 17 years. She served two terms on the Baker City Council from 1971 through 1979. She was the recipient of the Baker Jaycees Distinguished Service Award.
Pansey received numerous awards for her volunteer work and spent more than 10 years volunteering at the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter CJ Sisterhood, Baker County Soroptimists and was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church. She married Sherman Allen on May 15, 1971.

Survivors include her husband, Sherman Allen of Baker City; her children, Fred Mull Jr., and Sandra Allen and her husband, John, of Salem; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pansey was preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Diabetic Association, First Presbyterian Church or to the charity of one’s choice through Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St., Baker City, OR 97814.
