Grandma Mary Bowman, nee Foster, widow of John Bowman, deceased, died at the residence of Absalom Nellans, six miles southwest of Rochester, Monday, January 28 [1889]. Yesterday her remains were taken to the Lutheran Cemetery near Bloomingsburg for burial, prior to which Rev. A. E. Gift delivered an eloquent funeral sermon. Deceased was born in Perry County, Ohio, some 78 years ago, and emigrated to Fulton County, Indiana, during the early part of its history. Henry Bowman, who resides in Talma, died Monday [August 25, 1903] afternoon at 2 o’clock. He had been suffering with dropsy, along with the effects of old age, for the past 9 months and the end was not unexpected. Mr. Bowman came to the little town of Talma from Fremont, Ohio, about forty-five years ago and engaged in the milling business for a number of years until his health failed. On last Friday evening [July 11, 1879] Nicholas Lee, a gentleman known to every old-time resident of Polk County, departed this life at his home near Dallas. Mr. Lee was born in Pike County, Ohio, February 11, 1818, and in 1847 crossed the plains to Oregon. In 1848 he came to Polk County and in the year following settled on the place near Dallas, at which place he died. Mrs. Leota Yocom, 62, of 1121 Cashmere Street and long-time Wenatchee resident, died in a local hospital Sunday morning [October 24, 1952] following an illness of four weeks. She was born January 12, 1892 at Van Wert, Ohio, and she resided in Ohio until 16 years of age when she came with her sister to Wenatchee in 1908.
