I have relatives that lived in New Orleans and my relatives/ancestors are creole. They were given Washington as their last name, may have been slaves from Bradfield and Reed families as well. Allegedly my greatx5 grandfather ran away with plantation owners daughter
I’m looking for information about a slave named Sarah who belong to one Ezekiel Hays who I think was in the New Orleans area. She was of mixed race. My ancestor., Patrick Henry Herndon abducted her and brought her to Texas in about 1831. Hays sought aid from the Mexican govt. in having her returned. Herndon and perhaps Sarah were killed in the Alamo in March 1836. I’m writing an article about this and would appreciate any information you may can provide about Sarah and/or Hays. Thanks!
