Steen Dies At Hot Lake Eliza Izora Steen, who had lived in Wallowa County most of her life, passed away Sunday, April 7, 1974 at Hot lake following an illness of several months. She was the daughter of Henry and Angeline Zumwalt and was born Sept. 10, 1889 at Terrydale, near Madras. Ford, Arando – Obituary

Arando Ford, aged 71 years, died very suddenly from heart disease at the home of his son near Zumwalt, last Thursday afternoon, August 5th. He was brought to Enterprise Thursday night and burial was made in the Enterprise cemetery Saturday evening. He leaves three daughters and two sons. The two sons, Dan Ford of Zumwalt and F.N. Ford of La Grande, and Mrs. J.H. Carroll, a granddaughter, of La Grande, arrived on the late Saturday evening train to attend the funeral. Zumwalt, Oregon Cap Wilson While hunting near the head of Summit creek on a mountain four miles from the Snake river, L.A. Beddingfield and son Earl, found a human skull lying on the surface of the ground. No bones were to be found anywhere near the resting place of the symbol of death. It is thought to be part of the remains of Cap Wilson, who formerly hunted and trapped in the vicinity of Summit Creek. Several good sized fractures were found in the bones of the head. Moses C. Thompson Zumwalt, Oregon Word has been received in this city that Moses C. Thompson, veteran of the Civil war and resident of this city for many years, died at the G.A.R. home at Roseburg on Monday. Mr. Thompson served in the Navy during the war and was a member of the local post of the G.A.R. He had lived here for about 20 years, where he owned his own home. Poison Is Fatal To Jack Bradley Well Known Wag and Joker Dies At Joseph—–No Relatives Found Jack Bradley died last Friday night in the Sheets hotel at Joseph, after taking laudanum. He had been drinking heavily a day or so and was taken to the hotel by the authorities. A four-ounce bottle labeled laudanum was found after his death. Helen Alford, the daughter of Eugene Albert Houck and Doris Francis Houck, was born on Nov. 5, 1930 in Enterprise. She grew up in the Zumwalt area of Wallowa County. In 1949, she married Glen Emory Alford of Joseph. During their lives together they lived in Wallowa County, Baker City and the Willamette Valley. Helen enjoyed family gatherings, playing pinochle and table games, and sewing for her family.
