Biography of George Whitefield Abbott

George Whitefield Abbott, born March 13, 1837, in West Boscawen, N.H., became a prominent figure in Penacook as President of the J. E. Symonds Table Company. After attending local schools, he worked as a clerk in Boston before entering the grocery business with his brother. Abbott served in the Civil War, was wounded, and returned to mercantile pursuits post-war. He later shifted to furniture manufacturing, while also engaging in various civic and political roles, including being a Presidential Elector and State Representative. Abbott was twice married, with one surviving child.
