Walton New York

Joel Tyler Headley, born on December 30, 1813, in Walton, New York, was a notable historian and journalist. Initially pursuing the ministry after graduating from Union College and studying theology, he transitioned to writing due to health issues. His influential works included “Napoleon and His Marshals” and “History of the War, 1812.” Headley served as an associate editor for the New York Tribune and later held political office, including Secretary of State of New York. He remained committed to historical scholarship, particularly concerning Orange County, until his death in 1897.
