Earle Miller of Wallowa conducted the services. The Pall bearers were: M. Crow, Roy Edgmand, Harrison Holmes, D. H. Magill, Edgar Marvin and Edward Thompson. A quartette, Mrs. Ella McArtor, Mrs. Helen Bright, Chas. Bridwell and Melvin Crow, sang “No Night There”. And “Sweet By And By”. Wallowa, Oregon Mary A. Carper died Oct. 7, 2005, at the Regency At the Park. She was 78 years old. She was born Oct. 19, 1926 in Enterprise to Emmet and Erma Chenoweth Landers. Mrs. Carper attended school in Wallowa. On Dec. 31, 1947 she married Fredrick C. Carper. They lived in Wallowa, Elgin and then in Milton-Freewater until 1962. Mrs. Carper worked for Lynden – Umatilla Cannery, Rogers Cannery and also the Carters Tree Farms. Later in life she worked for the school district in Athena and St. Mary Medical Center. Enterprise, Wallowa County, Oregon The body of Miss Eva Rumble, who died on March 19 in Santa Barbara, California, was brought back to Wallowa county on Saturday. Burial was in Prairie Creek Cemetery on Sunday. Miss Rumble was postmistress at Joseph for many years. Her health failing, she went with her parents in 1910 to southern California. Raymond (Rod) Garrett passed away Sunday, May 17, 1942 at the home of his brother, Richard Garrett at Jacksonville near Medford. Dewey L. Harris Murdered in Idaho A telegram was received Saturday saying that Dewey Harris, a former resident of Enterprise, had been found dead, evidently murdered. It has been learned that he was murdered Friday afternoon by a fellow worker because of jealousy over a woman. The fellow afterwards confessed. Dewey spent 18 months overseas and since returning had taken a job on the ranch, where he was murdered. He was a son of Marion Harris who left Enterprise a couple of years ago. William (Bill) Womack, son of John William and Martha Thompson, left Wallowa around 1910 to take up a homestead near Wilder, Idaho. There he married Nellie Mae Pack. Nellie Mae Pack 1889-1934, a daughter of John Henry Pack and Lucy Ann Maria (Carter) Pack, lived in Wallowa from 1898 to 1903. She, with her family came from Beckley, West Virginia, by train, as far as Idaho, then accompanied by the Oscar Bidler family, traveled by wagon train to the Wallowa Valley.
