Joseph, Oregon Harley Wallace Chandler died Oct. 22, 2006, at Walla Walla General Hospital. He was 73. Mr. Chandler was born July 10, 1933, in Joseph to Oscar and Gladys Ballantine Chandler. He moved with his family to the Milton-Freewater/Weston area in 1946 and attended schools in Joseph and Milton-Freewater. He graduated from McLoughlin Union High School and earned an associate of arts degree in heating and air conditioning from Walla Walla Commiunity College. Joseph, Wallowa County, Oregon Henry James Cathcart, of La Grande, formerly of Joseph, passed away Thursday, September 2, 1965 at St. Joseph hospital in La Grande, following several months of ill health. Memorial services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Bollman Chapel with Rev. James E. Jones officiating. Mrs. Luella Miller was organist and Rev. Douglas T. Paradise, Wallowa County, Oregon Vernon Baker was fatally shot at about twelve o’clock Monday night by Harry Swisher near Paradise. According to Swisher, who has recently purchased the Bob Turner place, he suspected that someone from the Joseph creek region was trying to make way with some of his mules, and started out toward Joseph creek, accompanied by Erick Smutler. They soon came face to face with Vernon Baker with three of Swisher’s mules, one of which was packed. Enterprise, Oregon Margaret Belsher Services were held on July 31, 2004, in Sellwood Baptist Church for Margaret Marion Belsher, who died July 18 at age 75. Ms. Belsher was born Dec 2, 1928, in Enterprise. She graduated from Enterprise High School in 1946. Holmes, George H. – Obituary

Enterprise, Wallowa County, Oregon George H. Holmes was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1855. In early childhood he crossed the plains with his parents to Bannock City, Montana. Later the family came to Walla Walla and in 1868 they located at Cove, which was his home until early manhood. Mr. Holmes was one of the earliest settlers of Wallowa County, residing here at a time when there were only thirteen families in the County.
