Imnaha, Oregon Ned Boyce passed away at Walla Walla, Wash., on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 1938. He was born Jan.6, 1912 at Elma, Wash., son of William and Olga Boyce. On Aug. 30, 1959 he was married to Cora Simmons at Enterprise. He was a painter by trade and was a member of the Enterprise Elks Lodge. He came to Wallowa County in February, 1948 and opened the Pie Shop and Melo Freeze Ice Cream Shop. He was in that business for several years. JOSEPH E. KIRKLAND. – Mr. Kirkland was born in 1831 in Illinois. He was the son of a farmer who removed in 1832 to Arkansas, where he gave his children the advantages of a common-school education. In 1851 the family crossed the plains with oxen to Lane county, Oregon, the journey occupying four months. They took a Donation claim, and worked in the Southern Oregon mines from 1852 to 1857, perfecting, in the meantime, their title to their Donation. HENRY MARTYN CHASE. – This gentleman was born March 28, 1831, in Philadelphia, from whence he moved to Newburyport, Massachusetts, in 1844. He is a descendant of Aquila Chase, one of the early settlers of Newburyport, Massachusetts, and also directly descended from the famous Hannah Dustin, who killed her Indian captors in the Indian war of 1689.
