McEwen, Edward Jesse – Obituary

Edward Jesse McEwen, a skilled jockey from Ellensburg, died in a tragic accident during a race in Waitsburg on June 4, 1920, at the age of 25. Thrown from his horse, he sustained fatal injuries, including a broken neck. McEwen, the son of local horseman Harvey McEwen, had achieved recognition as one of the best jockeys in the United States, riding for Geo. Drumheller and winning notable races, including a Derby. His passing is mourned throughout the northwest, and he is survived by his family.
