North Powder, Oregon Darwin L. “Harry” Harrison, 67, of Springfield died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, of esophageal cancer. Recitation of the rosary was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Eugene. England’s Eugene Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Harrison was born May 11, 1935, in Hot Lake,Ore., to Albert and Alta Lund Harrison. He graduated from North Powder High School in 1953. From 1955 to 1958, he served in the Seabees. Betty Brooks, 75, a former Baker City resident, died at her home in Victorville, Calif., on April 16, 2002. Betty was born to Mildred and Allen Bond in Baker City in 1927. She finished school at Baker City and attended Eastern Oregon College (now Eastern Oregon University) at La Grande. Betty married Lloyd “Bud” Brooks in Baker City. They would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this August.
