P. O. DUFFY was born September 10, 1837, in Hartsville, Tenn. He is a son of Francis and Permelia (Parker) Duffy. In 1845 he came with his parents to Todd County and was raised on his father’s farm, where he remained until the age of sixteen years. He then secured employment as clerk in the store of Taylor & Duffy, and remained with this firm about one year, after which his father opened a store and he began then to clerk for him. ASBURY STAMPER REESE was born December 16, 1829, in Shelby County, Ky.; removed with his parents to Todd County in 1833, where he grew to manhood and still retains his residence. His father, Rev. Thomas G. Reese, long a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, was born on the line dividing North Carolina and Georgia, in 1799, and died here in 1881. EGBERT GARTH. In 1812 Elijah Garth came from Albemarle County, Va., to Kentucky, and made settlement near Trenton, in Todd County, on a farm now occupied by Webster C. Garth, and which he had but fairly begun to develop, when (in 1815) he died. R. N. ADAMS was born October 7, 1842, in Todd County; he is a son of W. D. and Frances (Grady) Adams. The father was born in Virginia in 1805; he died in March, 1876; the mother died in 1850. JO LINEBAUGH was born January 12, 1823, in Logan County, Ky.; he is the son of Thomas and Ann (Owings) Linebaugh. The father was a native of Pennsylvania; he died in 1854, aged seventy. Biographical Sketch of W. H. Salmon

W. H. SALMON was born September 14, 1844, in Todd County. He is a son of Capt. William and E. P. (Cobb) Salmon, parents both born in Virginia; they came to Todd County in about 1829. The father died in 1847. Our subject was raised on his mother’s farm. She died in February, 1880, leaving three children: America A., John and William IL, who was married April 20, 1882, to Miss Sallie Bell, of Arkansas. One son gladdens their home-David B. This farm consists of about 220 acres of land, well improved.

Col. John Todd, whose honored name this county bears, was the eldest of three brothers, and a native of Pennsylvania. He was educated in Virginia, at his uncle’s-the Rev. John Todd-and at maturity entered upon the study of the law, subsequently obtaining a license to practice. He left his uncle’s residence, and settled in the town of Fincastle, Va., where he practiced law for several years; but Daniel Boone and others having explored Kentucky, Col. The people who laid the foundations of society in Todd County were a religious people. The great revival movement which originated in Logan County in 1800, spread over the new settlements of the State like a prairie fire, and set the whole land in a flame of religious ardor.
