Their children were:     i. JASON, b. -; m. March 10, 1815, Miriam Plaistridge of Cornish, b. Nov. 15, 1792, and d. Feb. 29, 1888. She was dau. of Caleb and Hannah (Manning) Plaistridge. Being the youngest son, he was his parents choice to remain on the homestead and care for them in their declining years. Here he spent his life as a farmer. Was a member of the Baptist Church. As a politician, he was at first a Jeffersonian Democrat. Espousing the cause of the slaves, he, among others was dubbed an abolitionist, and later was a Republican. He m. DELLAVAN D. MARSH, son of WILLIAM, and grandson of Samuel, was born May 8, 1818. He studied medicine with Willard P. Gibson, of Newport, and John S. Blanchard, of Cornish; attended lectures at Woodstock, Vt., and at Hanover, N. H., and graduated from the latter institution in 1834. He commenced practice at Mount Desert, Me., the same year, but in 1837 returned to Croydon, where he has since remained in the practice of his profession. He has taken a deep interest in agriculture. Horace Powers, from Croydon, N. H., came to this town in 1832. He first located at the Four Corners, where he remained until 1856, then removed to Morrisville, where he died, in December, 1867. He was a physician and surgeon by profession, and practiced until his death. In 1833, he married Love E. Gillman, who still survives him, and who bore to him three children two sons and a daughter. HON. LEVI W. BARTON, born March 1, 1818, a lawyer, graduated at Dartmouth. He was three years register of deeds. two years county solicitor, five years a Representative and two years in the Senate; in 1866 on committee to audit war indebtedness of the State, one of the committee to codify the New Hampshire laws, member of the Constitutional Convention, 1876, and in 1876 one of the Presidential electors.

This family can easily be traced back 300 years to Henry Cobb1, b. 1886 in the County of Rent. Eng. He came to America in 1629 and was a prominent man in Barnstable, Mass., where he lived and d. Henry Batchelder, a well-to-do farmer of Sunapee, was born here, January 17, 1843, son of Nathaniel and Sarah (Trask) Batchelder, both natives of Beverly, Mass. His grandfather, Zachariah Batchelder, a shoemaker by trade, was an early settler of Sunapee. Both Zachariah and his wife died in that town. Nathaniel, who came Sunapee for several years; and he voted the ticket alone. Active in religious work, he was an esteemed member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Newport. WILLARD C. KEMPTON, son of Col. Calvin Kempton, was born Oct. 13, 1840. He labored on the farm at home until 1858. JAMES CATE was b. in Greenland in 1747, m. first, -, Hannah Ayers (?), who was b. in 1746, and d. in Cornish April, 1780, aged 34; m. second, Hannah Huggins, dau. of John and Hannah Ayers Huggins, b. in 1757, and d. in Cornish Aug. 22, 1788, aged 31. He and his descendants for several generations settled chiefly in the towns of eastern Mass. CAPT. ZINA GOLDTHWAIT, Son Of Samuel, was born Nov. 6, 1787, commenced on the homestead, and was an extensive and tidy farmer, kept a dairy of fifty cows. He was a hightoned, exemplary man, gentlemanly in his bearing, and quite a favorite. While in town he held many offices.
