4. STEPHEN4 COLE (Daniel3, Ebenezer2, Ephraim1) was b. Oct. 17, 1787; studied medicine with Dr. Roswell Leavitt of Cornish and Dr. Edward E. Phelps of Windsor, Vt., and from them received a license to practice medicine and later received an honorary degree from Dartmouth College. He settled first in Huntsburg, Vt., and then, in 1813, settled in Cornish, where he lived and practiced medicine till 1830. He then rem., first to Windsor. Vt., afterwards to Westford, N. Hiram H. York, a well-known farmer of Cornish, has always resided in this town on the estate where he was born December 6, 1823. His grandfather, William York, also born in Cornish, was prominently identified with the Democratic party of the early days. William, in many ways the most prominent man in the town, was a noted veterinary surgeon, whose practice covered an extensive district. He was Sheriff of Sullivan County for many years. SAMUEL BLANCHARD, son of Darius Blanchard, was born Sept. 17, 1790. He is a man endowed by nature with uncommon abilities, has much shrewdness and wit, and has been the most successful teacher the town ever produced. Would our limits permit we could relate many an amusing instance of how the ready genius of ” Black Sam” has out generaled and conquered a large, turbulent, and to others ungovernable school, without a blow. Capt. ALEXANDER BARTON, son of Benjamin Barton, Esq., was born June 14, 1804, After leaving Croydon he spent a few years at Ludlow, Vt., and from thence removed to Boston, where, immersed in business, has been spent the greater portion of his active life. He is courteous and genial in his intercourse with others, and hence was always quite a favorite. In his earlier days he was much in office. He was Representative from his native town for the years 1836, 1837 and 1843, and was in 1850 a member of the Constitutional Convention of Vermont.

CYRUS KINGSBURY FLETCHER, second son of Timothy Fletcher who was for a long time a worthy, gifted and zealous deacon of the Baptist Church at Newport-was one of the Committee of Arrangements, and is a most worthy and exemplary farmer. He married Rachel Jacobs, daughter of Luther, and resides on the old “Jacobs Farm,” so long occupied by her grandfather, Whitman Jacobs.
