Tsilkotin Tribe
The Tsilkotin, an Athapascan tribe in British Columbia, primarily inhabit the Chilcotin River valley. Historically, they had interactions with neighboring tribes like the Takulli and the Kwakiutl and were often in conflict with the Shuswap. Previously centered around Anahem Lake, their population has shifted to three reservations in the Chilcotin Valley. While many have adopted Western customs and lifestyles, a portion of the tribe remains semi-nomadic and retains traditional practices. The Tsilkotin population was estimated at 450 in 1906.
