Eugene Charlie Cottier, born on September 10, 1868, in Owatonna, Minnesota, learned plumbing at a young age by standing on a soap box in a shop that still exists today. Over his career, he operated in five cities, including Sacramento and San Francisco, before establishing a successful plumbing and tinning business in San Mateo.
