Fred Schuyle Jackson, born in 1868, emerged as a key figure in Kansas history. Sylvester Freemont Wicker, a prominent lawyer in Greenwood County for over thirty-three years, was born on February 28, 1852, in Indiana, and later moved to Kansas. His family heritage traces back to Scotch-Irish roots in North Carolina. Wicker’s early life included experiences as a cowboy in Texas before he pursued law, being admitted to the bar in 1883. He served as Greenwood County’s attorney from 1910 to 1914 and owned property in Eureka. He was married twice and had three daughters with his first wife and one son with his second.
