Biographical Sketch of Dr. J. E. Hawley
Dr. J. E. Hawley was born on June 1, 1852, in Delaware County, New York, and moved to various locations, including Chickasaw County, Iowa, and Clay County, Nebraska. In 1878, he settled in Burr Oak, Kansas, where he served as City Councilman and was elected Mayor in 1882. A graduate of St. Joseph’s Hospital Medical College, he married Alice J. Stephenson in 1871 and they had four children: Burt A., Edward F., Seth Zell, and Julia A. He was also a Masonic member.
