Edith Alberta Gothenquist, 90, of Baker City, died Feb. 23, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center surrounded by her loving family. There will be no funeral. Edith was born on Oct. 14, 1917, at Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, to Alfred and Jenni Gothenquist. Her family moved to Berkeley, Calif., when she was young. They finally moved to Spokane, Wash., where she graduated from high school. She worked for the bank now known as Wells Fargo, retiring after more than 20 years. Florence M. Donohue, 2101 First St., died Friday in Spokane, Wash. She was 74 years old. Mrs. Donohue was born November 25, 1885 in La Grande, the daughter of Donald and Joan (Childers) McLachlen. Her grandfather John McLachlen came to the Grande Ronde Valley as a young boy and was later U. S. Marshall and Sheriff of Union County. Mrs. Hazel Cooke, wife of Jay Cooke of the Colockum died in Spokane, Tuesday, March 13, at 2 o’clock. Mrs. Cook has been in poor health for sometime and was in Spokane with her mother, Mrs. Margaret Perry in the hopes of benefiting her condition. The body will be brought to Wenatchee Friday.
