Outhouse, John T. – Obituary

John T. Outhouse, a prominent figure in Union County, passed away last Tuesday at his La Grande home after enduring years of suffering from rheumatic gout. Born in Nova Scotia in 1828, he moved to Oregon in 1850, where he became one of the first school teachers in the Willamette Valley and later served as superintendent of public schools. Appointed by President Cleveland as receiver of public monies at the La Grande land office, he was a dedicated Democrat and well-respected within the community.
