Collins, Leonard “Pud” – Obituary

Leonard “Pud” Collins, 83, of Elgin, Oregon, passed away on August 26, 2002, at Grande Ronde Hospital. Born on September 18, 1918, in Wallowa County, he was a lifelong logger who cherished outdoor activities and family gatherings. A celebration of life service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Powwatka Cemetery. He is survived by his siblings, two daughters, a stepdaughter, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many relatives. He was preceded in death by a son, a stepson, and a brother.

Patricia Anne Grove, 71, passed away on August 8, 2002, at her home in Baker City, Oregon. Born on February 23, 1931, she graduated from Union High School and worked as a telephone switchboard operator before marrying Paul Grove in 1951. The couple often returned to Baker City, where they settled permanently in 1989. An active member of the First Christian Church, Patricia cherished her family, enjoyed gardening, and created beautiful crafts. She is survived by her husband, four children, and several siblings.

Alice Marie Ensminger MacPherson, 82, of Union, passed away on October 15, 2002, following a brief illness. Born on February 7, 1920, in Baker City, she graduated from Union High School in 1938 and married Donald Franklin MacPherson in 1939. The couple operated The Union Republic newspaper and later returned to Union. Alice is survived by her daughter, son, brother, half-siblings, grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994. Memorial contributions can be made to the Union County Humane Society.

Laura Bell Bennett Gebert, 82, passed away on June 22, 2002, at her home in Haines, Oregon. Born on January 7, 1920, in North Carolina, she moved to Oregon as a teenager with her husband, Charles Willis. Laura dedicated 66 years to family life in the Portland area, while enjoying quilting and gardening. She is survived by her five children, sisters, a stepsister, ten grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. Her graveside service will be held on Sunday at Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland.

Elliott, Arnold – Obituary

Arnold Elliott, 61, passed away at his home in Baker City, Oregon, on April 22, 2002. Born on June 2, 1940, in Long Creek, he spent his early years in Pondosa before moving to Union, where he graduated from high school in 1958. Arnold served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. Rose, James Russell, Sr. – Obituary

James Russell Rose Sr., 87, passed away on November 17, 2001, in Baker City, Oregon. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Baker City Christian Church. Born in Ontario, he married Marion Phyllis Frazier in 1935 and worked at a mill in Pondosa before settling in Baker City in 1962. Rose was an active volunteer and named state Volunteer of the Year in 1997. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, with contributions to be made in his memory to local organizations.
