Davidson, Gladys Mrs. – Obituary

Gladys Davidson, 89, of Baker City, passed away on October 13, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center. Born on October 19, 1914, in Pima, Arizona, she had resided in Baker City for 14 years after living in Redding, California, for 40 years. A devoted homemaker and mother of five, she was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Gladys is survived by her four children, ten grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren. She will be buried at Lawncrest Memorial Park in Redding, California.

Biographical Sketch of Hiram S. Stevens

Hiram S. Stevens, born on March 20, 1832, in Vermont, moved to Arizona in 1855 after serving in the U.S. Army. Initially a gambler, he transitioned to a successful trader and became one of the wealthiest men in the territory by 1874. His election as Delegate to Congress was notably marked by his innovative campaign strategy involving the gambling community. Stevens served two terms in Congress, multiple terms in the Territorial Legislature, and two terms as Pima County Treasurer before his death on March 24, 1893.
