Biography of Hon. Henry Montague Willis
Hon. Henry Montague Willis, born in Baltimore in 1831, was the son of a merchant marine captain. Embracing a seafaring life from age twelve, he journeyed extensively before arriving in California in 1849 amid the gold rush. After initial ventures in mining and business, he turned to law, studying in North Carolina and practicing in San Francisco. Willis became a prominent figure in San Bernardino, serving as District Attorney and County Judge, while also advancing agricultural practices. A family man and community leader, he was active in fraternal organizations and pioneer societies.
