Biography of David Warren Cogswell
David Warren Cogswell, born in Henniker on January 1, 1824, was the son of prominent local figures. He began working in his father’s blacksmith shop at the age of ten and later took it over in 1850. Cogswell was an active community member, engaging in politics, education, and the abolition movement. He married twice, fathering three sons. A charter member of the Odd Fellows, he played a significant role in the organization, contributing to his community’s welfare and the Union cause during the Civil War.
