Biography of Alexander Hance
Alexander Hance, born on February 19, 1850, in Washington County, Tennessee, moved to Newman Township in 1871 as a farm hand. He exemplified determination, eventually becoming a prominent farmer and stock-raiser. In 1889, he purchased 320 acres of land and expanded his holdings to 480 acres. Hance married Nancy Biggs in 1874, with whom he had seven children. After her death in 1895, he married Generva Holton, with whom he had two additional children. He also contributed as a commissioner of highways and served as a ruling elder in his church.
