Biographical Sketch of Cady Staley
Cady Staley, born in Minaville, New York, on December 12, 1840, was a prominent engineer and educator. A graduate of Union College, he earned his A.B. in 1865 and C.E. in 1866, later receiving a Ph.D. in 1874 and an LL.D. in 1888. Staley played a key role in constructing the Central Pacific Railroad and served as a professor and dean at Union College before becoming the president of the Case School of Applied Science from 1886 to 1902. He co-authored a notable work on sewerage systems.
