Cora Lois Moberly, 78, of Milton-Freewater, passed away on Nov. 20, 2005, in Walla Walla, Wash. Born on Dec. 15, 1926, in Haines, she married Joseph D. Moberly in 1946 and held various jobs, including work in restaurants and property management. She was dedicated to her family, hosting many gatherings and providing foster care. Lois is survived by her children, siblings, 19 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. Funeral services are scheduled for Nov. 26.

Van Ocker, Virginia Mary Wilson Mrs. – Obituary

Virginia Mary Wilson Van Ocker, 90, of Baker City, passed away on January 29, 2005, in Boise after a prolonged illness. Born in Seattle on June 3, 1914, she graduated from Mac-Hi in 1932 and married Elmer Van Ocker in 1933. Virginia worked as a youth employment coordinator until her retirement in 1985. She enjoyed camping, fishing, cooking, and sewing. Virginia is survived by her three children, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, and a sister.

Jewett, Joe – Obituary

Joe Jewett, 93, of La Grande, Oregon, passed away on February 19, 2005. Born on May 13, 1911, in Helena, Montana, he became a minister after studying electrical education and theology. Jewett served various Christian congregations across the Northwest for over 40 years, including Baker City’s First Christian Church for 21 years. He is survived by his wife Helen, their three children, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on February 22 at the First Christian Church in La Grande.

Estes, Sonja Larson Mrs. – Obituary

Sonja Estes, 64, of Richland, passed away on February 21, 2005, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Boise. A memorial service will be held at the Richland Methodist Church, followed by a potluck at the Richland Grange. Born on September 6, 1940, in Bend, she spent her childhood in Central Oregon and graduated from high school in Milton-Freewater. Married to James Franklin Estes in 1968, Sonja was known for her love of the outdoors and her active community involvement. She is survived by her husband and several stepchildren and grandchildren.

Jones, Janis M. Davis Mrs. – Obituary

Janis M. Davis Jones, 65, of Haines, passed away on March 24, 2003. She was born on November 1, 1937, in Forks, Washington, and graduated from McLoughlin High School. A lover of the outdoors and animals, she was known for her warmth and friendliness. She is survived by her husband, Ed, and several children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In accordance with her wishes, no services will be held, and memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.

Slack, Lyle B. – Obituary

Lyle B. Slack, 64, passed away at his home on February 7, 1979. Born on October 14, 1914, in Summerville, Oregon, he graduated from La Grande High School and served in the Army during World War II. He married Ruth Hopkins in 1943 and later operated Slack Upholstery Shop in Milton-Freewater after farming in Summerville. He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter, a sister, and three grandchildren. The funeral is scheduled for February 9 at Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home.
